By Sandy PowersIt was the summer of 2005 when my diagnostic mammogram revealed a growth in the back of my breast. The biopsy confirmed it was cancer. My best option was to have a mastectomy. When our immune systems are not working at full strength, we are at risk of getting bacterial infections which make us very ill. Common bacterial infections are skin infections, ear infections, throat infections, tonsillitis, pneumonia, and respiratory infections. Sexually transmitted diseases also fall into the category of bacterial infections.
It might not sound too pleasant but millions of bacteria are around us all the time. We touch them, we inhale them and they even live on us. We have bacteria in our bowels, mouths, stomachs and all over our skin. But the fact is we need them to stay healthy, and the bacteria that live in and on us are harmless.
Humans can only be harmed by a few types of dangerous bacteria, called pathogens. These are the ones that weaken our immune systems, making it very difficult for the body to fight off an infection on its own. This is when a doctor will prescribe an antibiotic like Zithromax. This drug will start killing the bacteria, enabling the immune system to get back to its full strength.
Once the immune system is up and running, it can take over and fight the remaining bacteria. When your doctor gives you a script for Zithromax, he or she will give you specific instructions as to how much you must take, and for how long. Always take heed of these instructions. If you do not take this medication for the correct length of time, you could very well get sicker with a severe relapse. Even worse, the bacteria could become resistant to the drug and cause other serious complications.
Doctors usually prescribe Zithromax tablets for adults and adolescents, and the Zithromax oral suspension for children. Get plenty of bed rest, eat well, drink lots of water, and you should be on the road to recovery very soon.
